IMPACT TB Consultative Meeting with Nepal National TB Programme and Stakeholders

On 3rd April 2017, BNMT Nepal organized a Workshop titled “IMPACT TB Consultation Meeting with Nepal National TB Programme and stakeholders on Active Case Finding Policy in Nepal: Successes, Challenges and Research Priorities” for the new project “IMPACT TB”. This project is funded by the European Union Horizon2020 and led by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) UK in partnership with BNMT Nepal, The Karolinska Institute (KI), Sweden, Friends for International Tuberculosis Relief (FIT), Germany and KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, the Netherlands.

The objectives of the workshop were to:

  1. Introduce the IMPACT TB project to stakeholders in TB control in Nepal
  2. Review current policy and experience of active case finding implementation in Nepal
  3. Review perceived facilitators and barriers to active case finding scale-up through facilitated discussion with the experienced stakeholders
  4. Identify research priorities for active case finding in Nepal that can be addressed within the IMPACT TB project and future grant applications.
  5. Develop a roadmap for how to translate research findings into policy and practice.

Distinguished guests i.e. Co-Chairs Mr. Mahesh Sharma, Chairperson, BNMT Nepal and Prof. Knut Lonnroth, Karolinska Institute, Sweden; Chief Guest Mr. Bhogendra Raj Dotel, Chief of Policy Planning and International Cooperation Division, Ministry of Health; Dr. Bhola Ram Shrestha, Director, Curative Division, MoH; Dr. Ramesh Bikram Singh, Deputy Director General, Department of Health Services (DOHS); Dr. Sharat Chandra Verma, Director, National Tuberculosis Center (NTC); Dr. Maxine Caws, Principal Investigator, IMPACT TB and; Dr. Buddha Basnyat, Director, Oxford University Clinical Research Unit/OCRU Nepal along with several government officials, representatives from other I/NGOs and international delegates were present in the Workshop.
