Enhancing Community Health in Nepal

The massive earthquake of 25th April 2015 and its aftershocks led to nearly 9,000 deaths, leaving more than 23,000 injured (PDNA Report, 2015; NPC 2015). Many of the local level health facilities were destroyed and communities were not able to access basic as well as mental health services.
The project ‘Enhancing Community Health in Nepal’, funded by Big Lottery Fund (BLF), is implementing in five earthquake affected districts namely Makwanpur, Sindhupalchowk, Nuwakot, Bhaktapur and Kathmandu.
The major objectives of the project are

  1. To reduce psychosocial problems in the communities,
  2. To decrease in diarrheal and WASH related diseases and
  3. To increase availability of health services in the communities.

Project Coverage Districts: Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Makwanpur, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk;

Project Coverage VDCs: Kavresthali, Sankhu, Sundarijal, Bhaktapur Municipality, Gundu, Nagarkot, Manahari, Handikhola, Padapokhari, Samundratar, Sundaradevi, Balkumari, Badegaon, Kunchowk and Sipapokhare

Total Population Coverage: 30, 34, 637

Target Groups and Beneficiaries: Socio-economically vulnerable people, women, children, elderly and marginalized
